There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts aside from the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
