There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that features numerous amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
