There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
